Reforesting Langkawi
To combat the effects of deforestation, a Native Tree Nursery has been established. The focus of the initiative is on growing specifically food and nectar plants suited for birds, butterflies and mammals, as well as planting canopy trees. Over 100 seeds have already been collected from the grounds of the surrounding Datai Bay rainforest and planted in the Native Tree Nursery, with continued gathering and maintenance of these seedlings until they are ready for tree adoption and to be replanted as part of our reforestation projects across the island. We have also partnered with the Department of Forestry Peninsular Malaysia in the Penghijauan Malaysia (Greening of Malaysia) reforestation programme and have received 1,000 saplings in February 2021 as part of this nationwide programme.
